Public Programs

The EOS Center is committed to engaging people in learning how the ocean and estuary affect our lives and the environment we live in today, how we can solve environmental problems now, and what may change in the future depending on what we choose to do today. We offer engaging public programs, professional development and volunteer opportunities for individuals, families, students, teachers, environmental professionals and the scientific community.

We are able to offer programs free or for a modest cost thanks to grants and the generosity of private foundations, corporations, businesses and individuals. Join our email list to receive notifications about upcoming events and programs at the EOS Center.

The Barbara and Richard Rosenberg Institute for Marine Biology and Environmental Science presents these free public programs each year.

  • The Rosenberg Institute Seminar Series - Our weekly science seminars bring together our academic community and the public to hear about emerging research from leading scholars and professionals in marine and environmental science. Come learn about the new discoveries, technologies and solutions that people are working on now to address environmental challenges and enhance our knowledge of the natural world.
  • The Rosenberg Institute Public Forum - Twice a year we convene a public forum on a new and innovative topic in marine biology or environmental science. The forums feature presentations by thought leaders, graduate student led interviews, and an open session for questions and discussion with the audience. The program includes a reception with our guest speaker and light refreshments. The public forum series provides a unique opportunity for community members to engage with renowned experts and deepen their understanding of environmental issues and solutions. View videos of past Public Forums.
  • Marine Lab Open House - For over a quarter of a century, our Open House (formerly Discovery Day) has been a local community tradition enjoyed by people of all ages. Our faculty, students and staff invite you into the marine laboratory to do hands-on science activities, touch and see local marine life, learn about the ecology of SF Bay and our outer coast, and explore the technologies we use to study the ocean and the species that live there. Join us in exploring the science of the sea at our next Open House!

Our annual open house is when we invite the public to explore the EOS Center to learn about our research.

The EOS Center is pleased to partner with the International Ocean Film Festival to bring an engaging and interactive program of extraordinary films about the ocean and conversations with marine scientists to Marin County. Each screening includes a special question and answer session with a marine scientist.
